This product uses the name of the city itself as its material. The many layers of Kabukicho—entertainment, labor, tourism, and transgression—are translated into letters and reconstructed as a visual form. Fluorescent ink is used for the print. It reflects the neon light that defines Kabukicho at night and its strong visibility, expressing the relationship between the city and artificial light. This is not decoration. It responds to the idea that light has accumulated the city’s memories and emotions over time. This product is not designed to consume Kabukicho. It is designed to reconsider it as urban culture. Through a limited set of elements—letters, color, and ink—Kabukicho is presented.
