Tenugui From Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s “Hanagoyomi”

A tenugui produced based on Hanagoyomi by Kuniyoshi Utagawa, held in the Uragami Sōkyūdō collection.

It translates the work into the format of the tenugui, a cloth long used in Japan as an everyday utilitarian object.
An image once intended for viewing is reconstituted as fabric—meant to be touched and carried in daily life.

浦上蒼穹堂収蔵、歌川国芳「華古与見」を基に制作した手ぬぐい。

日本で長く日用品として用いられてきた手ぬぐいの形式へと置き換えている。
鑑賞のために存在していた図像を、日常の中で触れ、携行する布として再構成した
